Good June, Good July?

In June, the Atlanta Braves began the month with a 14-game winning streak and they did have a great month with 21 wins. The Braves are the World Series defending champions and there were several teams that also played well in June. Coming into July, did those teams play as well as they did last month?

Last month, there were 3 teams with 20+ wins. Firstly, the Yankees won 22 games and lost 6 times in June. The Yankees scored 155 runs and gave up 84 runs in June. In the offense, they crushed 58 home runs and posted an OPS of .798. Moreover, their pitching staff had a great 2.94 ERA. Secondly, the Braves won 21 games in June and they only lost 6 times. The Braves didn’t have a great start this season. They only had 10 wins, but lost 12 times in April. In May, the Braves won 13 games and took 15 losses. However, in June, they became one of the hottest teams in the majors. The Braves also scored 155 runs as the Yankees did in June. At the same time, the Braves blasted 54 HRs in June and their OPS was over .800. Meanwhile, the Braves pitchers threw 285 strikeouts, the most among 30 MLB teams. Thirdly, the Red Sox won 20 games in June. The Red Sox scored 129 runs last month and gave up 85 runs. However, the Red Sox didn’t hit many home runs as the Yankees or the Braves did. The Red Sox only had 24 home runs in June. But, the Red Sox pitching staff posted a good 3.02 ERA.

In the meantime, the Phillies won 19 games in June and the Guardians won 18 games. These two teams each owned an ERA under 4. Nonetheless, the Guardians’ OPS was only .674.

The Yankees, the Braves and the Red Sox each had a great month of June. However, in July, things are not exactly the same. By far in July, the Yankees have a record of 10 wins and 11 losses. The Red Sox currently won only 6 games in July, but they already lost 16 times. The Red Sox are now 5th in the AL East. Nonetheless, the Braves are still hot in July, they now have 15 wins and 7 losses. The Braves pitching staff have been pitching well this month with a 3.02 ERA.

Looking back at the 2021 season, the Braves’ winning percentage was below .500 before the All-Star break. Nevertheless, they won 18 games in August and had 16 wins in September. A great second half of the 2021 season helped the Braves clinch the NL East title. In the postseason, they defeated the Brewers in the NLDS and beat the Dodgers in the NLCS. In the Fall Classic, they defeated the Astros to become the World Series Champions. Now, the New York Mets are currently leading in the NL East. The Braves have played very well since June. The race to win the NL East title shall be very entertaining to watch in the rest of 2022 season and as the trade deadline is approaching, let’s see whether there are any trades that will make an instant impact.
