Also in Florida, Sandy Alcantara already made 19 starts and tossed 138.1 innings for the Marlins. He tossed 2 complete games before the All-Star break. In the meantime, Justin Verlander is back. He has a great 1.89 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP over 109.1 innings. Verlander didn’t pitch last year and he only tossed 6 innings in 2020. He currently leads the majors with 12 wins.

Tony Gonsolin has been pitching well with 11 wins and he hasn’t recorded a loss. Gonsolin’s ERA is only 2.02 and opponents only hit .168 against him. Gonsolin was selected to the All-Star game for the first time in his career. Moreover, Corbin Burnes won the 2021 NL Cy Young award and this season, he’s even better. Burnes posted a 2.43 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP last year. By far this season, he has a 2.14 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP in 113.2 innings.

Several players have played very well and enjoyed the first half of the 2022 season. It’s not a surprise to see many of them become All-Stars. The second half of the 2022 season just began today and there are several things worth monitoring. Aaron Judge already crushed 30+ home runs. Will he finish the season with 50+ home runs as he did in 2017? Justin Verlander looks great after coming back from the Tommy John surgery. How many innings will he really pitch this season? Additionally, Tony Gonsolin already tossed a career-high 93.2 innings. Can he continue his great performance after giving up two home runs in the All-Star game?
