Last year, I bought some hobby backs of the 2021 Topps Allen and Ginter Chrome baseball cards. In 2023, the 2022 Topps Allen and Ginter Chrome was released in March. Just a few days after the 2022 Topps Allen and Ginter Chrome was released, I went to a sports card shop to get some hobby packs of this product, trying to see whether I could find something interesting.
There are 18 mini cards in a hobby box and I found a Trevor Story mini card. Last year, Trevor Story and the Boston Red Sox agreed to a 6-year deal. In 2022, Story slashed .238/.303/.434 with 16 home runs and 66 RBI. Story’s first season with the Red Sox doesn’t seem to be a good one, but does it mean that it’s not a good story for the Red Sox?
Looking back at Trevor Story’s stats in the first half of the 2022 season, it seems that he didn’t have a good start of the season. In April, Story only batted .224/.297/.299 with 5 RBI. He didn’t crush any home runs in April and his OPS was only .596. However, in May, Story blasted 9 home runs and he collected 32 RBI in 27 games. His OPS went up to .842, which was much better than in April. Nonetheless, Story’s OPS dropped to .677 in June and in July, his OPS was only .660. Before the All-Star break, Trevor Story only batted .221/.289/.423 with 15 home runs and 58 RBI in 81 games.
After the All-Star break, Story hit .340/.389/.500 with 1 home run and 8 RBI. Unfortunately, Story missed some playing time due to injuries. He only played 13 games for the Red Sox in the second half of the 2022 season.
Story got off to a slow start last season without blasting a home run in April. However, it seemed that he began to heat up in May with 9 home runs. But, he didn’t hit well in June and July. In August, he collected 7 hits in 4 games and in September, Story had 10 hits in 9 games. In a small sample size, Story did hit well in the second half of the 2022 season. Nonetheless, injuries did limit his playing time. Trevor Story is currently on the 60-day injured list and already missed the 2023 Opening Day. It’s not so clear when Story will return. Well, before joining the Red Sox, Story slashed .251/.329/.471 with 24 home runs and 75 RBI with the Rockies in 2021. Moreover, he was an All-Star in 2018 and 2019. It is certain that the Red Sox would expect to see Trevor Story contribute more to the Red Sox lineup. Nonetheless, the Red Sox fans might have to stay patient and wait for Story to come back. Furthermore, Trevor Story was the everyday shortstop for the Rockies previously, but he became a second baseman for the Red Sox last season. With Xander Bogaerts signing with the Padres, will Trevor Story become the shortstop of the Red Sox once he comes back? Let’s see whether there will be a good story at the end of the 2023 season.
