According to the MLB’s announcement, the first MLB spring training game will officially begin on February 22nd. Hence, very soon, there will be spring training games. Baseball fans must be ready to watch baseball games in the 2024 season. Moreover, in 2024, several things could happen.
Firstly, we have to talk about Mike Trout. Trout played 82 games in 2024, slashing .263/.367/.490 with 18 home runs and 44 RBI. By far in his career, he already blasted 368 home runs. Trout needs 32 home runs to reach 400 homers. But, the key thing is always his health. He only played 82 games last year. Back in 2022, Trout played 119 games and crushed 40 home runs. Therefore, to join the 400 home run club, staying healthy and playing 100+ games are necessary for Trout.
In addition, Andrew McCutchen and the Pirates agreed to a 1-year deal. He now has 299 home runs in his career. He needs a home run to reach 300 home runs. He smashed 12 home runs in 2023 and it probably won’t take so long for him to reach this milestone. Meanwhile, Anthony Rizzo has 295 career home runs so far. He has 12 home runs in 2023 as well. It shouldn’t be that difficult for Rizzo to reach 300 home runs.
Moreover, Evan Longoria has collected 1930 hits so far in his career. He needs 70 hits to reach 2000. However, he’s now still a free agent. In the meantime, Paul Goldschmidt has 1909 career hits. Goldschmidt had 159 hits in 2023, it might be possible to see him reach 2000 hits before the All-Star break.
Finally, Jose Abreu has 953 RBI so far in his career. Abreu played for the Astros in 2023, slashing .237/.296/.383 with 18 home runs and 90 RBI. If he stays healthy, he should be able to reach 1000 RBI in 2024. Additionally, Manny Machado played 138 games and had 90+ RBI in 2023 as well. By far in his career, Machado has collected 944 RBI. He needs 56 RBI to reach 1000 RBI. In the meantime, Mike Trout is another player that might reach 1000 RBI in 2024. Trout needs 60 RBI to reach this milestone. However, he only had 44 RBI over 82 games in 2023. Moreover, Anthony Rizzo has 930 career RBI thus far. He only had 41 RBI over 99 games in 2023. To reach 1000 RBI, Rizzo has to stay healthy through the season.
In 2024, we shall see several players reach key milestones in their career. We probably won’t wait too long to see McCutchen reach 300 home runs. However, for Anthony Rizzo and Mike Trout, the top priority is certainly to stay healthy. Rizzo played 99 games last season and Trout only played 82 games in 2023. It might not be so hard for Rizzo to reach 300 home runs. Nonetheless, if he can’t play at least 100 games, it will be extremely difficult for him to reach 1000 RBI. And Mike Trout is one of the best hitters in the majors. It will be worthwhile to see his performance after Shohei Ohtani left the team. If Trout can reach 400 home runs and 1000 RBI in 2024, it’s going to be a memorable season, isn’t it?
