August is coming to an end. We are heading to the final month of the 2024 regular season. Before coming to September, let’s look at those teams which had played well last month and see which teams had a good August.

Firstly, the Dodgers are now leading the majors with 82 wins and 54 losses. In August, they won 19 games and had 8 losses. Their pitching staff posted a 3.62 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP, which looked good. At the same time, the team crushed 40 home runs and owned an OPS of .780.

In the meantime, the Brewers now lead the majors with 80 wins and 56 losses. Last month, they got 19 wins and 9 losses. Their pitching staff owned a 3.25 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. They had 5 shutouts. Additionally, the team had an OPS of .786.

In addition, the Arizona Diamondbacks won the NL pennant in 2023. They weren’t off to a great start in 2024. Before the All-Star break, they were 7 games behind the Dodgers. However, in August, they played very well. The D-backs won 18 games and lost 9 times in August. The team had a 4.50 ERA, but their OPS was over .800. The D-backs blasted 49 home runs last month and led the majors with scoring 171 runs.

Moreover, it might not be easy for the Cubs to clinch a postseason berth in 2024. Nonetheless, they played well in August with 18 wins and 8 losses. Their pitching staff owned a 3.94 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. Their offense was good with 37 home runs and an OPS of .792.

Also in the NL West, the Padres were 7 games behind the Dodgers before the All-Star break. Nonetheless, in August, the Padres pitching staff owned an ERA below 4. Meanwhile, they smashed 30+ home runs in August. The Padres won 18 times and took 10 losses last month. The Astros had a record of 18 wins and 10 losses in August as well. Their pitching staff did a great job with a 2.51 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP. Opponents only hit .185 against the Astros.

Finally, let’s turn our focus on the AL Central. The Tigers traded Jack Flaherty, who made 18 starts for the team with a 2.95 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP, to the Dodgers. Nevertheless, without Flaherty, their pitching staff had done a great job last month with a 3.06 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. Opponents only hit .208 against the Tigers pitching staff. With good pitching performance, the Tigers won 17 games last month.

With good performances in August, the Diamondbacks and the Padres are not only trying to clinch a berth in the postseason but also trying to win the division title. However, the Dodgers did play well in August. Hence, it will be very interesting to see those 3 teams in the NL West in September. Additionally, the Brewers pitching staff did a good job in August and they got 19 wins. And for the Tigers and the Cubs, let’s see if they can finish the season strong.
