Best hitters since 2019?

In October, I watched several postseason games. Watching October baseball is one of the most exciting things to do last month. In a game, I saw a batter who did hit well in that game. When he was at bat, the stats on the screen clearly showed that since 2019, he’s been one of the best hitters in the majors.

After watching the game, I began to think about a question. Besides that hitter, which hitters have performed well since the 2019 season? To understand a little bit more, I decided to check on the great Fangraphs website.

First of all, let’s look at the leaders for hits. Freddie Freeman is surely one of the most consistent hitters in the majors. From 2019 to 2024, Freeman collected 992 hits. At the same time, Trea Turner, who was Freeman’s teammate in 2022, had 941 hits over these 6 seasons. Moreover, Marcus Semien collected 909 hits over these 6 seasons. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made his MLB debut in 2019 and so far, he has 905 hits.

Secondly, let’s look at those home run hitters. Aaron Judge blasted 232 home runs over these 6 seasons. In particular, Judge smashed 62 home runs in 2022 and this season, he crushed 58 home runs. And another player in New York also likes to crush baseballs. Pete Alonso made it into the big leagues in 2019 and has become a 2-time Home Run Derby champion. He has 226 home runs thus far in his career. Furthermore, Kyle Schwarber smashed 212 home runs over these 6 seasons. Matt Olson and Shohei Ohtani each crushed 200+ home runs from 2019 to 2024.

Fourthly, let’s look at OPS. Aaron Judge’s number has been amazing. His OPS is over 1.000 over these 6 seasons. From 2022 to 2024, he finished each season with an OPS over 1.000. Moreover, Yordan Alvarez made his MLB debut in 2019. So far in his career, he has an OPS of .973. Additionally, Juan Soto’s OPS is over .950 in these 6 seasons and Shohei Ohtani has a .948 OPS. Finally, let’s look at wRC+. Again, Aaron Judge is on the top. His wRC+ is 180 from 2019 to 2024. In the meantime, from 2nd to 5th, they are all left-handed hitters. Alvarez has 166 wRC+ and Soto’s wRC+ is 160. Ohtani’s wRC+ is over 150. Freeman and Harper each have a wRC+ over 140.

When we look back at these 6 seasons, Aaron Judge’s hitting performance has been super impressive. Meanwhile, there are several great left-handed hitters on the leaderboard. Yordan Alvarez, Juan Soto, Freddie Freeman, Shohei Ohtani and Bryce Harper are tough for pitchers to face. Additionally, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Pete Alonso both made it into the big leagues in 2019 and they have become dangerous hitters since then.
