This postseason, there were so many exciting moments and we saw so many players play excellently. For the Mets fans, it’s certainly an unforgettable season. In mid-June, their winning percentage was below .500. Nonetheless, they did bounce back and were able to secure a spot in the postseason.
There are several players who played an important role for the Mets. And Francisco Lindor is certainly a key player that contributed a lot to the team during the regular season. Additionally, he did hit well in the postseason. Lindor’s great performance can be found in many highlights. I watched some of them. While watching highlights, I began to think about a question.
Lindor began his career in Cleveland and he was traded to the Mets in January 2021. After 4 seasons, did this trade work for both teams?
Well, let’s start with the Mets. The Mets got Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco in this trade. Lindor slashed .259/.336/.461 with 110 home runs and 359 RBI these 4 seasons. Carrasco pitched for the Mets from 2021 to 2023. He made 61 starts, posting a 5.21 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP over 295.2 innings. Before the trade, Lindor spent 6 seasons in Cleveland, hitting .285/.346/.488 with 138 home runs and 411 RBI. Carlos Carrasco made his MLB debut in 2009. From 2009 to 2020, he tossed 1242.1 innings for the Indians/Guardians, posting a 3.77 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP.
Now, let’s look at the Guardians. The Guardians got 4 players in this trade. Amed Rosario played for the Mets from 2017 to 2020, slashing .268/.302/.403 with 32 home runs and 148 RBI. Andres Gimenez batted .263/.333/.398 with 3 home runs and 12 RBI for the Mets in 2020. After the trade, Gimenez has played 4 seasons for the Guardians, hitting .261/.321/.393 with 46 home runs and 210 RBI. Amed Rosario played for the Guardians from 2021 to 2023, slashing .278/.314/.397 with 25 home runs and 168 RBI. Isaiah Greene is still in the minors, but Josh Wolf was released.
Looking at players involved in this trade, Francisco Lindor is still playing for the Mets and Andres Gimenez is still with the Guardians. They are probably the 2 most important players in this trade. Lindor has a great 2024 season, hitting .273/.344/.500 with 33 home runs and 91 RBI over 152 games. In the postseason, Lindor batted .275/.387/.490 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI. In the meantime, Gimenez slashed .252/.298/.340 with 9 home runs and 63 RBI in 152 games. In the playoffs, Gimenez hit .216/.275/.270 with 1 RBI. Hence, if we look at the performance this year, it seems that the Mets made a good decision to acquire Lindor.
Nonetheless, Isaiah Greene is still in the minors now and it’s still unknown if he will make it into the big leagues. So, we can’t clearly say which team benefits the most from this trade. Nevertheless, Francisco Lindor seems to be comfortable playing in New York so far. The Mets acquired him from Cleveland and decided to agree to a contract extension. Those moves have become fruitful in 2024 and in 2025, let’s keep watching.
