A couple of weeks ago, I was just browsing X and there was a tweet, which was very interesting. It showed the teams with the top winning percentage since 2010. At the top of the leaderboard, there are some teams that baseball fans won’t be surprised by.
However, there are some teams that actually won more games than some fans expected. After reading the tweet, I was just wondering which team might be the best since 2010.
To solve my doubt, I decided to check on the great Fangraphs website first.
The Dodgers and the Yankees each won 1300+ games from 2010 to 2024. There’s little doubt that these 2 games can win so many games over these 15 seasons. In particular, the Dodgers finished 5 seasons with at least 100 wins. Meanwhile, there are 2 times that the Yankees finished the season with 100+ wins. Moreover, the Cardinals have 1266 wins from 2010 to 2024 and they finished the 2015 season with 100 wins. The Rays won 1265 games in these 15 seasons and they finished the 2021 season with 100 wins. At the same time, there are 4 teams that have won 1200+ games since 2010. And one of them is the Red Sox. Hence, 3 teams that have won more than 1200 games since 2010 are from the AL East.
From 2010 to 2024, there were 10 different teams that won the World Series. The Giants won the Fall Classic in 2010, 2012 and 2014. The Dodgers won the title in 2020 and 2024. The Red Sox won the World Series in 2013 and 2018. Moreover, the Astros won 2 titles. Furthermore, 6 teams each won one. From 2010 to 2024, there are 5 times that the winner of the World Series comes from the NL West.
Finally, let’s look at playoff appearances. From 2010 to 2024, there are 3 teams that made it into the postseason 10+ times. The Dodgers clinched a postseason berth 12 times, which are the most among 30 MLB teams. In the meantime, the Yankees clinched a postseason spot 11 times. Additionally, the Braves played October baseball 10 times in these 15 seasons. Moreover, the Cardinals and the Astros each clinched a postseason berth 9 times. And the Rays clinched a playoff spot 8 times. Furthermore, the Guardians and the Brewers each played October 7 times from 2010 to 2024.
So, looking at these 15 seasons, in the National League, the Dodgers won more than 1300 games, made 12 playoff appearances and most importantly, won 2 championships. In the meantime, the Yankees led the AL with 1321 wins and made 11 playoff appearances. Nonetheless, the Yankees didn’t win any titles in these 15 years. The Braves and the Cardinals each won 1200+ games with 1 World Series title from 2010 to 2024. The Red Sox won 1200+ games in these 15 seasons as well, nevertheless, they only made 5 playoff appearances. But the Red Sox won 2 titles. There have been so many changes in baseball during these 15 years. However, as we can see, the Dodgers, the Yankees, the Braves and the Cardinals are the teams that have consistently played well and become postseason contenders. No one will ignore how hard they play. Nonetheless, there’s one interesting thing in baseball. Regular season success can’t guarantee success in October.
