Best hitters in the Fall Classic?


Several weeks ago, we reviewed some pitchers’ great performance in the World Series. It’s certain that some players were just dominating on the mound in the Fall Classic. After reviewing pitchers’ performance, let’s take a look at which batters did a great job in the World Series over the last 15 seasons.

 

After checking stats on the great Fangraphs website, here’s what I found.

Pablo Sandoval was named the 2012 World Series MVP. He crushed 3 home runs in 4 games. He played in the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014. In those 3 Fall Classic, he owned a batting average of .426. Additionally, Lance Berkman had a batting average of .423 in the 2011 World Series. Furthermore, Hunter Pence played in the 2012 and 2014 World Series and had a batting average of .390.

 

Salvador Perez won the 2015 World Series MVP and he also played in the 2014 World Series. Perez had a .348 batting average in those 2 Fall Classic. George Springer is the 2017 World Series MVP and he played in the 2019 World Series. In those 2 Fall Classic, he had a batting average over .330. Additionally, Michael Brantley played for the Astros in the 2019 World Series and in the 2021 Fall Classic, his batting average was .327 in those 2 World Series.

Also, let’s take a look at OPS. Springer’s OPS was over 1.200 in the 2 Fall Classic. Moreover, Freddie Freeman was fantastic in the 2024 World Series and he helped the Braves win the 2021 World Series. In those 2 World Series, his OPS was 1.171. Moreover, Pablo Sandoval had an OPS over 1.100 in the World Series. Juan Soto’s OPS was over 1.100 as well.

In addition, let’s take a look at leaders for hits. Jose Altuve had 30 hits in the World Series and Yuli Gurriel had 27 hits. Moreover, Justin Turner played for the Dodgers in 3 Fall Classic and he collected 20 hits. Turner’s former teammate, Corey Seager, had 20 hits in the World Series as well. Meanwhile, Carlos Correa, Pablo Sandoval and Alex Bregman each had 20 hits in the World Series.

Fourthly, Springer blasted 7 home runs in the World Series. Freddie Freeman smashed 6 home runs in the World Series, including 4 home runs in the 2024 World Series. Moreover, Corey Seager played in the World Series in 2017, 2020 and 2023. He crushed 6 home runs. Alex Bregman had 6 home runs in the World Series as well.

Finally, Alex Bregman had 19 RBI in the Fall Classic. Freddie Freeman collected 17 RBI in the World Series and 12 RBI came from the 2024 World Series. And Corey Seager had 15 RBI in the World Series. Mike Napoli played in the World Series 3 times and he had 15 RBI as well.

 

Looking back at the World Series from 2010 to 2024, the Dodgers and the Astros each played 4 times in the World Series. It’s not a surprise to see players from those teams on the leaderboard in several hitting categories. Nonetheless, it’s worth indicating that the Giants won 3 World Series titles and some players such as Pablo Sandoval and Hunter Pence did hit well in the Fall Classic.
